Classification of Products *

Decree No. 90-987 of 1 October 1990

The devices are divided into four classes: K1, K2, K3 and K4.

Class K1 Devices representing only a small risk Approvals Required Permitted to minors
Class K2 Devices whose handling requires some precautions Prohibited to minors
Class K3
Class K4 Devices which user should be under the supervision of a qualified pyrotechnician K4
Class K4 ARP

Fireworks at particular risk (ARP.)

Devices whose use must be made by a head shot K4 itself.

 


Approval of products

 

Any product class K1, K2 and K3 must have a license to be marketed, imported or drawn.

This approval is issued by the Ministry of Industry after a series of tests in an approved laboratory.

 

The approval is reflected by a product approval number of the form:

BB/00000/MM/AA

  • BB: Product Type
    • BB: Bomb
    • CH: Roman Candle
    • FT: Fontaine
    • PM: Brown Air
    • FB: Fire of Bengal
  • 00000: Serial number of 5 digits
  • MM / YY: Date of approval. (New format).

The classification criteria

 

 Class
  • Lower limit
K1
  • Fireworks do not belong to the categories below
K2
  • Devices for which there is a likelihood of confusion with food or toys.
  • Containing more than 3 grams of active ingredient in firecrackers.
  • Containing more than 50 grams of active ingredient in the case of sparklers.
  • Containing more than 10 grams of active ingredient for other devices.
K3
  • Fireworks containing more than 10 grams of active ingredient
  • Containing more than 100 grams of active ingredient to other devices
  • Of a size greater than 65mm
  • That can reach an altitude of 12 meters operating in the case of bombs and rockets. 
K4
  • Fireworks containing more than 500 grams of active ingredient
  • Containing more than 45 grams of active ingredient intended to produce a sound effect.
  • Of a size greater than 50mm in the case of brown air.
  • With a caliber greater than 105mm in the case of other devices from a mortar.
  • That can reach an altitude of 20 meters operating in the case of bombs and rockets. 

 


Steps before a shot

 

Fireworks containing only products K1, K2 or K3 which the amount of active ingredient is less than 35kg.
  • If the shooting is going on a public place: request for authorization for mayor.
  • On a private authorization application to the landowner.
  • Notify fire the date and location shooting.
 Fireworks at least one product containing K4 35kg or more of active ingredient.
  • If the shooting is going on a public place: request for authorization for mayor.
  • On a private authorization application to the landowner.
  • Statement at least 15 days prior to the Prefecture.
  • Notify fire the date and location shooting.

 

 


Storage of fireworks

 

These requirements are set by the decree of March 25, 92.

  • The fireworks must be stored in a locked bunker or under the supervision of a guard. The room should be located on the ground floor equipped with an e springlage security.
  • The devices must be stored in their original packaging.
  • The storage building, e must not accommodate the public, should not be an apartment building or a high-rise building.
  • The room will be marked, especially with smoking ban;
  • The storage can not under any circumstances be used for preparing and assembling the fireworks.
